The challenge

Evoluted is an integrated marketing agency focused on driving digital growth for (mainly) scaling B2C brands. Under the leadership of Giorgio Cassella and Sam Biggins, the Sheffield-based agency had identified a number of opportunities for growth and development within its senior team of channel specialists.

With a growing team and a number of accounts moving from single service to broader multi-service remits, Giorgio approached us about running our 10-week Strategy Catalyst Training for the team. The ambition was to further develop the strategic skills of the team to support them with working on increasingly strategic briefs with larger clients.

As Giorgio explains: “A few lines about the motivations behind the course…

As our client accounts have grown from being single-channel focused to multi-channel campaigns involving multiple layers of experience, expertise and domain knowledge, we needed to ensure our team were equipped to continue delivering the exceptional results we’re known for at a higher strategic level.

The evolution from working with business founders to C-suite execs requires a very different approach to communication and strategic alignment, and OV were perfectly positioned to guide our team through this shift in understanding and approach.”

The process

Initially, our 10-week Strategy Catalyst Training was delivered via Zoom with five members of the Evoluted senior team (Account Directors and Heads of Departement) and covered the four core topics of: strategic foundations and marketplace dynamics, formulating marketing strategy, customer acquisition, retention and loyalty and finally, evaluating performance and knowing when to change strategy.

Jon Paget, OV Senior Partner and Trainer, said: “The Evoluted team were great to work with – they were keen to challenge and apply the ideas and frameworks we covered. The workshop session was a real insight into how the team were working on client challenges and where opportunities existed. Led by the Evoluted team, they presented back how they’d applied some of the ideas we’d explored to current clients. This 2-hour workshop always proves so valuable as attendees get the chance to test what they’ve learned.”

Giorgio then approached us with an idea for a new training session based on something he wanted to develop internally at Evoluted; a best-practice, standardised approach to reporting and performance evaluation based on building greater levels of insight and commentary into the agency’s established monthly reporting process.

An additional 5 team members were added to this extra training module, which ran over 3 weeks and which took the team through:

  • A 2-hour deep dive into reporting best practice, from managing stakeholder requirements to how to build narrative and insight into each report
  • A power hour (1-hour practical session applying what’s been taught in the previous session) where the team reviewed and critiqued an old report they’d worked on, highlighting areas for improvement
  • A final practical workshop where, in small teams, the group responded to a brief requiring them to create a new report applying the learnings from sessions 1 and 2.

The results

Giorgio said: “Building upon the brilliant Strategy Catalyst programme, our next challenge was to drive significant improvements in how we adapted our reporting process to deliver enhanced performance insights at the boardroom level, building trust, and credibility with our partners and unlocking new commercial opportunities for both Evoluted and our clients.”
