The challenge

Reflect Digital is a performance marketing agency who specialise in combining behavioural science with marketing, helping clients to unleash their digital performance and grow revenue by leveraging human insights and psychological nudges to optimise strategies.

The senior team at Reflect Digital pride themselves on their focus on moving forwards, ensuring that they and their clients are progressing in order to achieve their goals.  Their passion for digital spills into everything they do, “If we could eat digital strategy on toast for breakfast, we would.”

However, it was clear that as the agency grew, new opportunities were emerging to offer greater value to their clients by thinking and acting more strategically – especially on those occasions when the senior team were not always able to be in the room.

Finding the right training was therefore very important and for Founder and CEO Becky Simms and Client Services Director Laura Harvey, the training had to live up to their own expectations of excellence.

Laura explains what was key for her: “We were looking for training to help our Account Managers and Senior Leadership Team to understand the value opportunity they can bring to clients. To show them the importance of thinking and planning more strategically and how that will elevate the quality of our work, our recommendations and the relationships we’re able to build with clients.”

The process

Our brief was to create a tailored training programme that aligned with Reflect Digital’s proposition of focusing on behavioural science, as well as their requirement for us to deliver the training in person.

We worked closely with Reflect Digital to refine and adapt our existing ten week remote training course to meet their needs, with the final training programme consisting of our standard five module structure, with the addition of a consumer behaviour module.

Training took place in person (with one person dialling in remotely) over two days to a group of twelve of Reflect Digital’s team.  Included within this was a three hour workshop where the group was broken up into smaller teams.  This allowed everyone the time and space to implement and think about adopting what they’d learnt to their existing agency clients. This sparked a lot of debate and raised ideas and thoughts from participants as to what sort of questions they would like to ask their clients which they were able to work through on the day with our trainer, Jon.

The Reflect team brought openmindedness and lots of great ideas – my highlights were hearing the discussion and debate to the various challenges the team worked through and then seeing them apply some of the strategic concepts we’d explored to their existing accounts”.

The results

At the end of the two days our survey of participants revealed a 10/10 score for all aspects of the course, including effectiveness of the training.  And importantly, the team is now set up with the tools and frameworks to start applying to client conversations straight away.

Strategy is one of those words that you could ask 50 people to define and probably get 50 different answers. When growing an agency, in the early days a lot of this strategic thinking comes from the founder or senior team, but as the business grows – it gets harder for these people to be in all conversations that require strategic thinking. 

From taking our team through Open Velocity’s training I can already see, just two weeks later, how it has helped level up our team’s approach and toolkit to handle different client situations. The training was so practical which has meant the team have been able to embed this into their ways of working straight off the bat – having used the models during the sessions.
